Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is tallow, and why is it used in skincare?
Tallow is rendered kidney fat (suet) from grass-fed cattle, and it's packed with nourishing vitamins (A, D, E, and K) and essential fatty acids that are great for the skin. It has a similar structure to our skin’s natural oils, which makes it incredibly effective at moisturizing, healing, and maintaining skin health. Unlike synthetic skincare products, tallow is natural, non-comedogenic, and full of nutrients that promote healthy skin regeneration.

What skin types can use tallow-based skincare?
Tallow is versatile and works well for all skin types! It’s especially beneficial for dry, sensitive, or mature skin due to its deep moisturizing properties. It’s also non-comedogenic, so even those with acne-prone or oily skin can benefit from it. As always, patch testing a small amount first is a good idea if you're new to tallow.

What if my tallow-based products melt or freeze?
Tallow is sensitive to temperature fluctuations and has a melting point of around 95 degrees. If your product melts in warm weather, don’t worry—it’s still perfectly safe to use. However, it may change texture, especially for whipped tallow. If your whipped tallow melts, it will lose its whipped consistency but will still deliver the same nourishing benefits. If the product freezes, just allow it to come to room temperature, and it will return to its normal consistency.

How should I store my tallow-based skincare products?
To keep your tallow products in the best condition, store them in a cool, dry place. Avoid leaving them in direct sunlight or places with extreme temperature fluctuations. If you live in a particularly hot climate, storing them in the fridge is a good option to keep them solid and fresh.

Can I use tallow for my face and body?
Yes! Tallow is perfect for both your face and body. It’s incredibly moisturizing and absorbs well, making it ideal for areas of dry skin or conditions like eczema or psoriasis. For facial use, just be mindful of the amount you apply—start with a small amount and adjust as needed.

Are your products truly grass-fed and finished?
Yes! Our tallow is sourced from 100% grass-fed and finished cattle. This means the cows are raised on a natural diet of grass, resulting in high-quality tallow that’s rich in nutrients and free from harmful chemicals or hormones. We are committed to sustainable, ethical practices that ensure the well-being of the animals and the environment.

Do your products contain any artificial fragrances or chemicals?
Nope! We keep it simple and clean. Our tallow-based skincare products are free from artificial fragrances, parabens, sulfates, or other synthetic chemicals. We only use natural, skin-loving ingredients that complement the healing properties of tallow.

Can I use tallow products on my baby or children?
Tallow-based skincare can be a great option for babies and children, as it’s gentle, nourishing, and free from harsh chemicals. However, since children’s skin can be more sensitive, we always recommend doing a patch test first—especially for anyone under 2 years old. If your child has specific skin conditions, such as eczema or psoriasis, or if you’re unsure, it’s always a good idea to consult with your pediatrician before introducing any new skincare products.

For the most sensitive skin, we recommend reaching out about a custom order for our unscented tallow balm. (It's like a secret menu option!)

How long will my tallow products last?
Because tallow is a natural preservative, our products typically have a shelf life of around 6 months when stored properly. While tallow itself can last for years, the addition of specialty oils can shorten this timeframe, which is why we recommend using your product within 6 months. If you notice any changes in color, texture, or smell, it's best to stop using it. To maximize the lifespan of your product, store it in a cool, dry place and avoid introducing moisture to the container.
